SMx blood looks watery and is too low in hemoglobin to match their patient samples
Nov 12, 2025 07:21 PM
Hi Yuta,
We really appreciate this feedback! It’s great to get more context into how the SMx blood performed and your work around.
As a custom matrix, we are able to alter the concentration of hemoglobin to increase it to whatever concentration you desire. If you are interested in exploring this I would love to work with you. We would just need to know either a fixed concentration or % increase from what we had in there to quote it.
Thank You,

Hi Andrew,
It’s great to hear from you.
We’ve used SMx blood, and analytically it performed well. However, it appears quite watery and seems to contain very little hemoglobin based on a visual assessment. I’m not sure how much hemoglobin is typically added, but the current level is quite different from our testing population and results in a different interference profile during testing.
At this point, we’ve been creating our own blank whole blood matrix by purchasing SMx serum and manually adding hemoglobin to match the specific target that simulates our testing population.
I hope this clarifies things, and I apologize for not sending you an update sooner. Please let me know if you have any questions or need additional details.
